Hamilton signs with 'Skins

The Redskins have signed second-year safety Justin Hamilton, the team announced on Friday.

To make room for Hamilton on the roster, the Redskins released defensive back Stephen Tate, an undrafted rookie.

Hamilton, 6-3 and 222 pounds, played the 2006 season with the Cleveland Browns, totaling 15 tackles (13 solo) during his rookie season.

Hamilton was cut from the Browns on Sept. 1, 2007 and did not play last season.

He was originally a seventh-round draft choice by the Browns in 2006.

Hamilton played four seasons at Virginia Tech from 2002-05. He split time between running back and wide receiver, before moving to safety permanently during his senior season.

As a senior in 2005, Hamilton posted 35 tackles and three interceptions.

Hamilton grew up in Clintwood, Va., located in the western part of the state. He attended Clintwood High School.

Hamilton is expected to be on hand as the Redskins resume OTAs on June 2.

look, hamilton played for my favorite team. there is a reason he was cut. he may very well improve and not make some of the mistakes he made as a brown. if i was a redskin fan i wouldn't be to high on a free agent coming in that has been cut by another team and releasing a guy my team had just signed. i'm glad for justin though. hopefully he can revive his career with washington.

Just saw J on SportsNite. He was talking about learning the new defense and just trying to survive OTA's and hopefully training camp.

If my dad was right, they were showing some practice earlier today and Zorn mentioned him getting a pick today. Only player he mentioned, so hopefully he's at least turning some heads.

I hate the Skins but am glad to see Justin get on a quality team. I hope he has a career with them similar to Darrell Green's, only not against the Cowboys!!!
